2010 PERFORMERS
| Dan Tyminski | Rod Picott and Amanda Shires
|
A 13-time Grammy winner, Tyminski was featured as the singing voice of George Clooney in the film O Brother, Where Art Thou? His rendition of the Stanley Brothers' version of "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow" became a surprise hit single - firing off a popular renaissance in bluegrass in the process. | At 16, Amanda Shires was playing fiddle with The Texas Playboys. With five critically acclaimed albums since 2001, Rod Picott has established himself as one of the better writers in Nashville. A Yankee singer-songwriter and a Texas fiddler might seem an unlikely pairing but the natural chemistry between Rod Picott and Amanda Shires is undeniable. |
| Jonatha Brooke | Anais Mitchell |
Jonatha Brooke began wowing audiences in the early 1990s as a member of The Story. Since going solo, Jonatha has released eight stellar albums. A true poet with a warm, enchanting voice and a definite flair for a melody, Jonatha's latest project, The Works, pairs her music with Woody Guthrie's previously unheard lyrics. | Anaïs ("uh-NAY-iss") Mitchell writes songs that are as intimate as conversations and as rich in detail as short stories. She is the rare musician who is equally comfortable wielding an acoustic guitar alone onstage, sharing a disc's worth of alt-country duets, or scripting a vast operatic journey into the underworld. She's a fearless explorer, and her world just keeps getting larger. |
| Robin and Linda Williams and their Fine Group |
Rosie Flores |
Wonderful vocalists, first-class instrumentalists and superb songwriters, these Festival favorites return with their blend of bluegrass, folk, old-time and acoustic country music. |
Damn good songwriter, award-winning guitar player, and break yer heartstrings singer, Rosie Flores whips the best of rock and roll, honky tonk, early rockabilly, blues and jazz with the traditional sounds of her roots in San Antonio, Texas. |
| Tom Chapin |
Craig Bickhardt |
Billboard magazine calls Tom Chapin “the best family artist around” and Tom’s adult concerts are sparked by strong, intelligent songwriting with clear, engaging vocals and the intricate, melodic guitar work that has become his trademark. Tom will be performing in our Saturday afternoon family concert and also playing an adult set that evening. |
Craig Bickhardt’s songs have been recorded by Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Trisha Yearwood, Ray Charles, B. B. King, Martina McBride, The Judds, and others. After a long stint writing in Nashville, Craig has returned to his native Pennsylvania and the stage. |
| Jeffery Broussard & the Creole Cowboys | Elizabeth Cook |
One of the most influential accordionists and vocalists in modern Zydeco music, Jeffery Broussard continues to be one of the genre’s most dynamic performers. | Elizabeth Cook melds smart attitude with classic tradition, the credibility of a life lived with genuine hillbilly passion, and the integrity to write an acclaimed cache of uncommonly cool songs. Elizabeth Cook's unabashed breakthrough album Balls was produced by Rodney Crowell. Nanci Griffith has called her "this generation's Loretta Lynn." |
| April Verch Band | Eddy Clearwater |
Champion Canadian fiddler, stepdancer, and singer bringing together Celtic, jazz, folk, and bluegrass influences. | "The Chief" brings his slicing guitar licks, his rock-fueled blues, rockabilly, country and gospel gumbo and his uninhibited live show to fans ready for a taste of the real West Side Chicago blues, played by a master at the very peak of his abilities. |
| Dave Fry | Claire Lynch |
Spring Gulch Folk Festival regulars will remember Dave Fry’s 2008 appearance where he transformed a soggy Sunday afternoon into a moment of sunshine by inviting children onto the stage for a truly special family concert. Dave will again be performing our Sunday afternoon family concert. | By any measure, The Claire Lynch Band is high on the bluegrass world's A-List, with musicians whose accolades include two Grammy nominations and a combined total of five International Bluegrass Music Association Awards. Claire's musical direction dates back to the days of the Front Porch String Band, resulting in a seasoned sound that is simultaneously unpretentious and richly textured. |
| Andy Kimbel |
| Andy Kimbel is a very talented folk and country-blues performer whose star is rising quickly on the national blues and folk scene. Listen to him play and you will hear the influences of traditional blues, folk, R&B and a touch of New Orleans style roots music. |
